Alert: Watch for Passport and Transcript Disruptions

UC Merced Study Abroad Stories of Interest

Maybe you're applying to study abroad for spring 2021. Maybe you have already been accepted to study abroad fall 2020. Maybe you just need a passport to visit family over the summer.

Passports

Beware: Passport services are likely to be delayed. According to the U.S. Department of State:

Because of public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, effective March 20, we have limited U.S. passport operations.

What you should do if you're impacted:

  1. Get organized:
    1. Gather required documents (e.g. proof of citizenship, passport application, etc.)
    2. Follow updates on the U.S. Department of State Passports page.
    3. If you need an appointment for a new passport and your chosen passport acceptance facility only takes appointments, schedule the earliest possible appointment slot.
  2. Reach out to your Study Abroad advisor or your Study Abroad provider if you cannot meet a passport deadline.

Transcripts

Beware: Paper official transcript services are unavailable while UC Merced Office of the Registrar staff must work remotely.

What you should do if you're impacted:

  1. Review whether an e-transcript or unofficial transcript will suffice.
  2. Reach out to your Study Abroad advisor or your Study Abroad provider if you cannot meet a transcript deadline.
